The Faculty of History wishes to recruit a Temporary Assistant Professor in Early Modern World History (Islamic World).  This is a temporary, 12-month post to cover the leave of key colleagues in this area.

The appointee will have Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching responsibilities and will serve as co-convenor of the Part IA Outline paper, Early Modern Europe in the World.

They will be expected to contribute to teaching and supervising the IB Topics paper on Empires in World History and a new IB paper on the Mediterranean. They may also be asked to contribute to the Part II Advanced Topics paper: Material Culture in the Early Modern World. The postholder will take on extensive examining duties to ensure the smooth assessment of a large number of undergraduates.

They will also be required to run an MPhil module on The Global Early Modern Period: Global Perspectives on Modernity and History and to contribute at least one class to the core module on Sources and Methods. They will supervise MPhil dissertations and examine for the MPhil in Early Modern History. They will assess and register PhD students at the end of their first year and may also be called upon to serve as internal examiner of PhDs.

The appointee will be expected to co-convene the Faculty research seminar and workshop in Early Modern World History and will contribute to the administration of the Early Modern Subject Group and the MPhil Sub-Committee. 

We are looking for someone with a developing bibliography of research publication, who can demonstrate a firm commitment to teaching at both UG and PG levels and is willing to take a leading role in the development of teaching materials of lecture and seminars for UG and PG students. They should be willing to undertake management and administrative duties and assessment and examination at PG level and also have experience of/aptitude for organising and participating in collaborative teaching and research.
