Are you an experienced registered mental health professional looking for interesting and rewarding work in the higher education sector?

Student Services are recruiting a Principal Specialist Mentor (Mental Health) to provide individualised support to students with mental health problems. Specialist mentors provide longer-term interventions, either in person or online, with the overall aim of helping students to successfully complete their degree whilst maintaining their wellbeing.

We are seeking candidates with a professional registration (e.g. HCPC, BACP, NMC, etc - Disabled Students’ Allowances Team, Dept. of Education) and experience of working in mental health (e.g. counselling/psychotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, mental health nursing). No prior experience of working in higher education is required and we will provide a full induction package with training in the role.

You will work as part Student Wellbeing, which is a multi-disciplinary team that delivers a range of interventions to support student mental health. You will assess student needs and work collaboratively to develop strategies which facilitate independent learning and successful participation in higher education. This includes assessing and mitigating risk and making referrals to statutory services where appropriate. In addition, you will provide guidance and training to colleagues in Student Services and across the wider university. Student Wellbeing is a supportive team, and we value professional collaboration to deliver a safe and effective service for our students. We are looking for someone who can work flexibly and build positive and collaborative relationships with colleagues in our wider service and across the University.

The role is fully campus-based, and you will be required to work at both our City Centre and Headingley campuses.

Please read the Employee Specification to check that you meet the criteria for this post and contact Matt Graham (Specialist Mentor Team Manager) at M.Graham@leedsbeckett.ac.uk for further information or an informal conversation.

We are holding an open session via Teams if you would like to find out more about the role. The session will take place from 7pm to 8pm on Wednesday 8th May. Please use this link to join us: Drop-in Teams Link.

Interview date: Thursday 6th & Friday 7th June 2024
