The post
The Business School wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in the project “Renewing biodiversity through a people-in-nature approach (RENEW)” which seeks to develop solutions to one of the major environmental challenges for humankind; the renewal of biodiversity (renewbiodiversity.org.uk). This NERC funded post is available immediately. The successful applicant will support an understanding of how business decision-makers arrive at plausible nature-based decisions considering the major levers of business operations; contributing to the development of a biodiversity dashboard and a nature champions guide.
The post will include partner mapping exercises to identify leading businesses and business decision-makers/leaders with a profound relationship with nature. Conducting exploratory interviews with business decision-makers/leaders, utilizing qualitative methods and analysis, will capture how businesses integrate biodiversity concerns into their operations. Development of a Nature Champions Guide and contribution to a dashboard for business and finance decisions will position this research within the wider objectives of RENEW Theme 4 (Business and Finance decision-makers).
About you
The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in biodiversity modelling, business sustainability or financial decision-making (such as evidence of publication of peer-reviewed research, leading practice in your field or presented at national conferences) and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required.
Applicants will be a researcher with a track-record of high-quality publication, and a transdisciplinary engagement or familiarity with STEM and business management research. They will be able demonstrate use of science communication skills, successful delivery of multi-partnership projects and an ability to design, manage deliver qualitative research activities relevant to the post. They will be capable of working with stakeholders from a range of backgrounds including business and financial managers, farmers, landowners, and nature groups. They will also be able to work collaboratively with research colleagues across multiple disciplines, including RENEW’s extensive range of project partners (with particular focus on the those in the business and finance sectors.
