About the role

The Careers Consultant will be one of a team of four Careers Consultants, and a two-strong Work-Related Learning Team, developing and delivering careers education programmes to the students in a portfolio of departments across the four Life and Medical Sciences faculties. In addition, the Careers Consultant will conduct 1:1 careers guidance appointments, and work collaboratively on a range of central projects.

A crucial element of the role is a passion for mentoring / coaching others, and for supporting personal development. There will be lots of work with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders, so confidence in, and the enjoyment of, developing relationships and partnership working is really important, as well as the ability to plan, lead on and manage areas of work to a high standard and agreed objectives / outcomes.

About you

As this is a temporary position, providing cover for an existing staff member, we require a qualified Careers Consultant who can ‘hit the ground running’ at the start of the new academic year. You should be a confident presenter and facilitator and enjoy running group sessions as well as working with students 1:1. You should enjoy, and have experience of, work with a range of stakeholders so that you are well equipped to work closely with students, academic staff, support staff and employers.

Previous work experience within higher education would be advantageous as would knowledge of the issues facing graduates entering the world of work. Experience working in, or knowledge of, career areas of interest to life and medical sciences students would be beneficial, such as academic research, life science industry and healthcare.

Your application must include a CV and supporting statement. Both will be assessed on how well you evidence the essential and desirable criteria in the job description.
