Overview

The Newcastle NIHR PSRC is a partnership between three universities (Newcastle, Northumbria, and Queen Mary, London) and Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Post-graduate students will join a vibrant team of Newcastle-based researchers within the PSRC.

The PSRC includes four research themes and a patient and public involvement programme. This PhD project will sit within the theme of:

  • Artificial intelligence and data science in MLTCs

Our research theme embraces the exceptional capacity of Machine Learning (ML) to identify patterns in vast collections of electronic health records and imaging data (http://ai-multiply.co.uk/). We aim to discern risk patterns at both population and individual patient levels, enabling earlier intervention. Exploring the trajectories and care pathways of MLTCs in the ophthalmology service will be core to this PhD.

There will be important opportunities to collaborate cross theme and benefit from a dedicated post-graduate training program, providing unparalleled opportunities for post-graduate training and interdisciplinary working.
